International cooperation

International cooperation is important to the work of the Ombudsman for Children, who is able to compare activities and get ideas on working processes from ombudsmen for children in countries where the institution has existed for longer.

The office of the Ombudsman for Children is a member of the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children, which meets every autumn. See www.ombudsnet.org.

The Ombudsmen for Children in the Nordic countries cooperate closely with one another, and those from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland meet each year. A collaborative Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian project in 2008 surveyed the opinions of Sámi children from these countries.

We also actively monitor other forms of international cooperation in the area of children's rights.

We participate in the events of the European Forum on the Rights of the Child and the events of the Council of Europe on child rights. The Children and Young Persons Advisory Board acts as the Council of Europe's child rights focal point in Finland.

The Ombudsman for Children is also a member of the Child Rights Information Network (CRIN).
